Description:- According to former racer, Gene Tapia, the idea of a paved track in the Mobile area was conceived by a group from Pensacola, known as “The Dust Busters.” Five Flags Speedway had opened in 1953, and hosted one NASCAR race that year. The sixth-tenth mile Lakeview Speedway on Lott Road, near Mobile, had shut down about the time Five Flags Speedway opened, and drivers would have to travel the two-lane road to Pensacola.
