The selection can just about be counted on one hand. Then again, that is not what people come to Dauphin Island for but that doesn't meean you can't get some good food while you are there. Restaurants and Nightlife Barnicle Bill's: You pas Barnicle Bill's just as you come onto the island. Look to your left and you'll notice a long blue building just in front of the Dauphin Island Marina. The Beach Burger is on of the best you will ever have and it's about the size of the Dauphin Island public beach before the restoration was completed. I have yet to have a bad meal at Barnicle Bill's. Flamingo Fae's Beach Side Grill & Tiki Bar: Haven't hit this one yet but a review will be forthcoming soon. This is what Flamingo Fae's has to say: "Enjoy the spectacular waterfront and poolside view and delicious seafood at Flamingo Fae's Beach Side Grill & Tiki Bar. We're a full-service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the gulf in a casual atmosphere. From our seafood platter to our "Surfin' Joe Spuds," we provide delicious offerings prepared fresh daily from the finest ingredients. We're proud members of the Alabama Restaurant Association, and are located at the Isle Dauphine Golf Course." Lighthouse Bakery: Excellent. A gourmet selection of fresh backed breads, pastries and deli snadwiches. This is one of my favorite eating destinations on the island. 919 Chaumont Ave. 251.861.2253 Oarhouse Restaurant and Bar: Just across form the public pier. 1504 Bienville Blvd. 251.861.4800 Off The Island Just a short drive off the island are quite a few places for food and drink. You don't have to travel all the way to Mobile to find some fcood and fun. Julie's Place: A local establishment just north of Fowl River. We'll just say rustic and memorable. Leave the bermuda shorts at home but don't forget your Harley. Pelican Reef: Only 15 miles north of Dauphin Island at Fowl River. Located on the dock at Fowl River Marina. The food can be good or bad Baudeans: Less than a mile north of Fowl River. One of thte true seafood restaurants in the area serving gulf coast seafood the way it is supposed to be serverd. Some of the best seafood in the area or anywhere else. The Mariner at Dog River: A view overlooking the mouth of Dog River and decent food. A beautiful view of Dog River harbor and a very nice little family restaurant. Of course you can venture further north to Mobile, Alabama proper for a larger selection of fare or head east on the Dauphin Island Ferry to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, just make your reservations early so you don't miss the last ferry back to the island.
