The Federal style Condé-Charlotte Museum House was built in the 1840’s. The house, located on Theatre Street adjacent to Fort Condé, has an interesting history. Mobile's first jail was on the site; later a courthouse. Parts of the jail remained in the construction of the private residence and can be seen today. The residence was built by and owned by the Kirkbride family for over 100 years. Later the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Alabama purchased the house and opened it as a museum.
