| | There are many other underwater strobes on the market. The Ikelite Substrobe 100A is no longer produced by Ikelite.
B&H Photo is an excellent source for underwater camera gear, housings, lights, lenses and any other underwater photography gear you might need. B&H is also an excellent source for top side photography gear and video equipment.
| | | Preparing the Strobe for use The manual is always the place to start for getting information about your equipment. If you have an Ikelite Substrobe 100A you do net to form the capacitor if the strobe has not been used in the last 30 days. This is a very simple procedure but you need to do it right, when you do it, or you will damage the strobe. - Install new alkaline or recharge the ni-cad batteries.
- Turn the strobe on.
- Test fire the strobe 5 times by shorting across the terminals as illustrated in the diagram to the left.
| | | | Troubleshooting the Ikelite Substrobe 100A Strobe Will Not Fire - Check the strobe ready light. Turn the strobe OFF and then back ON. Make sure the switch has actually clicked into position.
- Check that alkaline batteries are inserted according to the polarity markings. It is possible to buy bad "new" batteries; check the voltage output with a meter. If using ni-cad batteries, make surethe charger is operating properly and the ni-cads are fully charged.
- Check the mode switches on the camera and strobe.
- Check the sync cord connection at the camera and strobe.
- Disconnect the sync cord from the camera, but leave the cord connected to the strobe. Short across the pins on the end of the cord to test fire the strobe. CAUTION: If you short acroos the wrong pins on a TTL sync cord, you will damage the Substrobe electronics.
Ikelite TTL Cord: Position the raised half-circle encompassing the receptacles toward you. Short across the center and lower right receptacles.
Nikonos TTL Cord: Position the indexing groove toward you. Short across thte back and right receptacles.
Sea&Sea TTL Cord Position the indexing pin on the right side. Short acroos the two lower receptacles. Special version strobe required for compatability with II-EX. - If the strobe fires, the problem lies somewhere in the camera. Otherwise, return the strobe to authorized Ikelite personnel. DO NOT self repair.
