Fort Pickens has been a popular gulf coast beach dive for many years. i first dove Fort Pickens during open water certification about 35 years ago and I have been taking my students there for years.
A couple of years ago, I believe it was after hurricane Ivan, Fort Pickens was closed. The road to the site was destroyed and the Parks Department has been a little slow in getting the road re-established. Word has it though, that Fort Pickens will reopen in May of 2009. We'll be supplementing this page with current dive reports and photos as soon as the site opens. | | | | Create n online digital scrapbook of your diving adventures with Smilebox. The primary dive site ar Fort Pickens is situated just inside, and on the east side of, the mouth of Pensacola Pass. If you dive the site any time a tide is running you willl be subject to strong currents that may drag you away frfom the dive site. It is highly reccomended you dive this site at the end of the high tideso you can take advantage of minimum current and better visibility. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
