Detroit continues to produce gas guzzlers as fuel prices climb and natural oil reserves disappear.

It is up to us, the consumer, to take ever step possible to save fuel.

Here are a few tips to help you make your fuel dollars stretch further.

  • Trade your gas guzzler for a more efficient model. Pie in the sky, I know, when car prices are throught he roof or you are ot of a job, but it is an alternative.
  • Take the bus
  • Carpool
  • Park your car and walk or ride a bike. This will also help you with your personal fitness and health. Save money and loose weight too.
  • Combine trips. Rather then making 10 trip for 10 things, consolidate your trips and plan routes for the least mileage
  • Unpack you care. Reducing weight improves mileage.
  • Change your driving habits. Slow and steady generally wins the race and saves fuel.
  • Use an octane (gas) cetane (diesel) booster
  • Tune up your car.
  • Change your oil and use one appropriate for the season.
  • Properly inflate your tires.
  • Service your transmission.

There are plenty of gimmicks on the market that hawkers would have you believe will increase your mileage. Be very wary of these snake oil salesmen. The internet is a wonderful place because it makes researching the wild claims of these crooks. It also helps you find the honest ones. Do your research and, if you have  a comment to add to this section please let us know.

Keeping your car in good running order, properly tuned, lubed and serviced is one of the best ways to insure you will get the maximum fuel economy on your travels.
